I am a fan of gasoline, don’t get me wrong, I have not gone hippie on my loyal readers, I’m looking at this as a way to save money, and keep us driving our muscle cars as much as we want, from what I have read on the subject it makes more power on less fuel, and does not emit harmful gasses.

I’ve seen designs on the converters, and it looks to me as if they still need some work, but I think in a couple of years this could be a viable solution to our fuel problems, along with E85 we could have everything we need very soon, and us muscle car freaks don’t ask a lot, we want to drive.

I think once we get cars running on pure hydrogen we’ll really have a good solution here, but for now E85 is the next best thing, we can still have fun in our muscle cars, without causing whiners to come UN-hinged on us, and once again blame the cars for all the world’s problems.

Which like any other idiot theory, is completely untrue, and uncalled for, these people just like back in the late 1970’s and the 1980’s are looking for a scape goat once again, and cars, and the manufactures of them are an easy target.

Once again I have went of on a rant, but I think that is out of my system now and I can get back to what I was talking about earlier in this article, which if you have forgotten is using hydrogen as gas for our muscle cars, I think it’s a great idea, if they don’t put a stop to it.
Hydrogen is a clean burning fuel, that from what I gather is making better power the gasoline, which will make it an obvious hit for the muscle car freaks, of which I can proudly say I am one, and no matter what happens I will always be one.

The HHO is a combination of gasoline and water, of which the converter creates hydrogen form, and then they are combined and run as fuel, safely creating from 20 to 50% better fuel mileage, and better power at the same time, it’s a great idea, now let’s take it all the way guys.

I love cars, and I will always come to their defense when it’s needed, I was watching an interview with representatives of Obama and Mccain, and they were going after cars yet again, blaming them for most of our problems, something that makes me not want to vote for either of them.

Just go a head, and mess with what I love, and I will defend to the end the fact that cars are not the major cause of all of our problems with our atmosphere, I’ll admit that everything contributes to the big picture, but don’t lay all the weight on cars, and the automotive industry, it’s just not right.

Things are happening that are going to make cars better on our ecosystem, if people will just give it a chance, don’t drive the big three out of business making them retool their entire business just to appease an idiot or two running at the mouth, let history play it’s card, let the inventors have a go at it.

By all means let us keep our cars, don’t be trying to force us to drive electric cars, we are American , and we’ll drive what we love, and real Americans love cars that are built in Detroit, and in the USA, and that is just how it is, so let’s quit playing games, and just make things happen.

Technorati Tags: hho, hydrogen, muscle cars, high performance cars, American cars, Detroit Motor Companies, gas prices

Last week end a couple of friends and I went to the Dodge dealership to see the new Challenger, and it was so much more then we expected, this car could not have been built better, it is absolutely perfect in every way, it could not be any better.

We didn’t even get to drive the car, as it was already sold, it had been ordered early by another fan of the Dodge challenger, so needless to say we’re still waiting for one to come in that isn’t already sold, I can’t even begin to explain how happy I was to see this car on the showroom floor.

It just restores my faith in the automotive industry to see that they will still occasionally listen to their customers, and I’ll tell you, Dodge could not have done a better job of listening, to it’s customers, and then implementing what they heard from them.

The particular car we seen was a hemi orange SRT 8 model, you know the 6.1 liter hemi, the only draw back was that this particular car had an automatic transmission in it, and I prefer the six speed standard, other then that it was one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen.

It’s almost a complete throw back to the good old days, when the 1970 Dodge Challenger roamed the streets, except with a lot of upgrades, in the areas that count, obviously one of the most important is the brakes, to put the halt on the 425 HP 6.1 liter hemi.

The brakes are now four wheel disc brakes, obviously much better the the old drum brakes all the way around the car, not to mention the six speed standard shift transmission to help put the power to the pavement, Dodge has speared no expense on this car, and they have done an excellent job building it.

An old muscle car freak like me could not be more impressed with this work of American art, I say kudos to Dodge, keep up the good work, no wonder Dodges is one of the best selling cars in this country, with this kind of forward thinking, and real American ingenuity it just can’t get better.

I’m just sweating bullets waiting for the first one to roll in that isn’t already sold, from the Challenger’s plush interior, to it’s true muscle car exterior, it’s a true work of art, and a car that any real muscle car freak will fall in love with, my friends and I are absolute muscle car freaks.

We knelt down by this work of art, and took a boat load of pictures, as if we’d never see another one again, although we know that we will, that should tell you a bit about us, and the people that we hang out with, there are no bigger muscle car freaks on the planet then us.

Technorati Tags: 2008 dodge challenger, muscle cars, American muscle, mopar, hemi, srt 8, dodge, chrysler, mopar

There are a number of things that I like about the 2009 camaro, But will it pick up where the first generation camaro left off, or will it build a legacy all it’s own, I think it’s going to be somewhere in between, I don’t see it raising eyebrows like the first generation camaro did.

It has it’s good points, and it’s bad points, I’m going to start with the good points about it, first of all Chevrolet has done a great job in the engine area of the car, using the best of new technology to build horsepower, and keeping it low in the emissions area, the 2009 camaro is a contender in this area.

The LS6 engine putting out a respectable 400 HP is a good place to start with the camaro, and the idea of optioning a six speed standard transmission doesn’t hurt either, for a real muscle car freak like me a standard transmission is a must, if for nothing else, the added fun factor of driving the car.

The rear end of the car is reminiscent of the 1969 camaro, a good place to get ideas for the new camaro, but they could have used a few more ideas for the 1969 model, the 2009 camaro has a true muscle car look, with it’s low slung stance, and body lines that seem to make the car look wider then it is.

The front end of the 2009 camaro could use a bit of work, it look to much like a foreign car, and not enough like an American muscle car, all you need to do is look at the new Dodge challenger to see what a true melting of modern, and classic should be, they have done it better then anybody.

The front of the camaro needs to be taller in the grille area of the car, and it should look more muscular, and less sports car in the front, it should retain the idea of a 1969 camaro in the front also, and it can be done, just think a little more like a camaro person, and less like a modern art person.

The interior of the 2009 camaro could not be more perfect, they have combined just enough of the modern, with just the right amount of the first generation camaro look, the center console and dash gauges of the car are nothing short of awesome, the work on the interior is beautiful as it can be.

The interior is very sexy, a long with being totally functional, it has the feel of an air craft cockpit a long look and idea of a muscle car of the 1960’s, as I have said above, it could not be more perfect of a design then it is.

It could go either way, we’ll see what the progression of the camaro brings over the years, with just a few small changes it could be a top contender for one of the best new muscle cars on the market, all Chevrolet need to do is pay a bit more attention to the people buying the car, and they will have the full idea.

It has just enough of the old to get my vote to be a real contender for the gold, it could use a few more engine options, the rear quarter panels are perfect also, but a little work on the tail lights wouldn’t hurt the 2009 camaro, make them a little less import looking, and a little more muscle car.

Technorati Tags: 2009 camaro, muscle cars, classic cars

I’m going to attempt to write another article about the 1970 Buick GSX, as it happens to be one of my favorite American muscle cars, and they are getting to be few and far between, now a lot of you may not even know that Buick built a muscle car, but they did, and as it turns out, one of the most powerful ever built.

For those of you who don’t know what a Buick GSX is, you may know what a Sky;ark is, the GSX is built on the same platform as the Skylark, to look at it you may even mistake it for a Skylark, but the looks are about as far as the similarities go, this in not a typical Skylark.

If your looking to restore your first car, and you don’t want an ordinary muscle car, maybe you should look for one of these cars, most likely you’d have the only one in your area, oh yeah maybe there could be a few clone running around your town, but a clone is not the real thing.

Up until 1994 when Dodge introduced the Viper, the Buick GSX was the most powerful factory built muscle car, well as far as torque, it’s factory horsepower numbers were not that impressive, but a large cubic inch engine does not thrive off of HP, it domain is torque and at a meaty 510 FTLB it is nothing to laugh at.

I watched an episode of muscle car about a month ago that featured one of these big bad cars, that was all 100% factory built, and they ran it down the ¼ mile, on street tires the car ran in the high 11 second range, and that is a very respectable run for a stock car on street meats, with the crocked exhaust.

It is one the most awesome muscle cars ever built any manufacture, and yeas this includes the Mopar Hemi cars, this includes every muscle car ever built, it is truly one of the best examples of American muscle that you could own, but there not easy to find, you’ll have to look for a while to locate one.

Bur the time it will take to locate it, is far out weighed by the fun factor, yes it’s a large car, but it’s as cool as any car you could build, with it’s 455 cubic inch monster engine, that pounds out a whopping 510 FTLB of torque right from the factory, you’d have nothing to lose by driving one of these.

This is not by any means a grandmas car, this car is 100% testosterone pumping all man and all mean American muscle car, and will beat most factory muscle cars, given it’s not an L88 Corvette, or Zl1 Camaro that you want to race, you’ll probably never run up on one of these any way, this Buick is a beast.

The likes of which you could have many hours of fun with, it is nothing short of evil, it cam with your choice of a turbohyromatic 400 automatic transmission, or a four speed on the floor, with a 3:42:1 positraction rear gear ratio, it was a formidable ¼ mile beast, you could drop those track times by lowering the rear gear ratio.

To see one, you may be reminded of a Chevrolet Chevelle, it had that look about it, and nobody should ever take one of these cars lightly, it may just pound you in to the ground.

Technorati Tags: 1970 Buick GSX, muscle cars, hot rods, classic cars

I love the American classic cars, and it doesn’t much matter what the car is as long as it was built in the USA, I do tend to like muscle cars a bit better then just regular American classics, the classic cars had such a stylish and classy look to them, and they didn’t all look the same, the cars today are more plain and drab.

There is nothing like the feeling of driving a true American muscle car, from the moment you fire the engine u, your blood begins to pump, you feel like a gorilla on steroids, like nothing can beat you, or even match you in a power contest, because you car and you are invincible, of course you know that it’s not true, but at least you have had the opportunity to have the feeling.

It’s the same feeling that you had as a kid when you got your first muscle car, and drove it to the local drive-in for a burger, you had your lady by you, and one mean car that you were driving, it doesn’t matter if it was a Mustang, ‘Cuda, Camaro, Corvette, or any other muscle car, as long as it was your car.

The second you pull in the the drive-in all the eyeballs are on your new ride, and the guys in the other cars look at you with anxiety wondering what your new ride has under the hood, wondering if it’s all factory, or if you have worked it over, and they won’t know that until you race them.

All the ladies have gathered around to see who it is in the new muscle car, they are anxious to go for a ride, and your glad to oblige, now that you have had an opportunity to show your new hot rod off, it’s off to hang out with the boys on the main drag, a place where you can prove your machine to all of them.

The time has come to have you first chance to race your new car, and you pull up to the light, give the driver next to you the sign, and engines begin to rev, as the clutch is held to the floor, as you anticipate the light turning green, you see it in your mind, you feel the moment approach as you wait, your car wants to obliterate the car next to you.

Your machine is breathing fire, and the light turns green, you let the clutch go, and your car immediately turns side ways, as the tires begin to churn smoke off of the pavement, and the smell of rubber comes up through the air vents in the car, as you hit second gear you car fishtails in the other direction, as you wrestle the wheel to bring it under control.

You quickly slam it in to third gear, and you car grabs traction about half way through third gear, as it get the all needed traction it slams your head and body back in the seat, like a gorilla suddenly reached around for behind you and pulled you in to the seat with all his might, as you engine winds up again, you shift to your last gear.

There you find solace, as you begin to pull away for you competitor, you win the race by a nose length, now it’s time to brag about your new muscle car, it’s time to shoe it off, and the boys will be back to the main drag next week end, and then you’ll see your competitor’s answer to you win from last week end.

I love camaros, I am one of the hugest fans of the camaro ever to walk the earth, or breathe the general’s tasty air, I really don’t know about the new one though, will it offers some cool stuff, like the 400 horsepower engine, and the cool interior amenities, they could have have spent a little more time on the exterior of the car, like Dodge did on the challenger, and no matter how bad I hate to say it, like Ford did on the mustang.

The whole idea behind the retro theme is to get the blood of the old muscle car freaks pumping, and I just don’t see the new camaro doing that, although I love the idea that Chevrolet is bringing the camaro back, I think they could save a bit more of the 60’s camaro look for the outside of the car, I hate to say that if I buy a retro muscle car, it will be the new Dodge challenger.

Dodge did that car justice in bringing it back, they kept most of the old retro styling for the 1970 challenger on the exterior of the car, and updated the interior to bring things up to date, it just the right amount of the past, mingled with just the right amount of the new, it could not have been done better, if it were done by god himself “KUDOS” to Dodge.

Mopar has always been my second choice in muscle cars, I do believe that they are now number one in my eyes, all the general has left thats as cool as it should be is the Corvette, and I cannot, and will not say a bad thing about a perfect car, but back to the task at hand, which was the 2009 camaro, and my ideas about how things should have been.

I think they done an awesome job on the interior of the car, and that could say just like it is, and the rear of the car only needs one small change, it needs tail lights that more resemble the 1969 camaro, and at the front of the car, the grille could be a bit taller, to give it more of the camaro feel, the grille was one of the little things that had a huge impact on the overall look of the car.

While were working on the front of the car, let’s make those fenders look a bit more like the 1969 camaro model, it’s not hard to achieve, just raise the crown of the fender a bit in the middle, and bow the sides out a bit more, and “WA-LA” it just like magic, you will not be able to keep them on the showroom floor.

Well General Motors did not in fact come out with a new model of the Camaro in 1969, instead they made the existing models better. 1969 Camaros are included in the first generation of the model, and with the first generation came the Z28 model that was designed to appear in the Trans Am race series.

The COPO

In 1968 Fred Gibb persuaded GM to make a Camaro with a all aluminum LZ-1 engine, they agreed only if Fred could order at least 50 of them. This new engine was dubbed the COPO option which stands for Central Office Production Offer. This option would inlide a large 427 cubic inch engine, in a small light Camaro. In 1969 there were only 19 produced and sold in the United States.

The improved Camaro

When they began making the 1969 Camaro they designed it to be a more safer car than that of the earlier models. GM mandated that the car could not come from the factory with a engine bigger than 6.6 liters. Now to find a loop hole some dealerships offered the Camaro with the 7 liter engine. When this happened GM was forced to add another COPO to the list with the numbers 9560 and 9561. The COPO 9561 option came with the L-72 Corvette engine. There were only 1,015 of these ever made though. The 9560 COPO option included the 7 liter ZL-1 engine. Only 69 were ever made of this version and is said to be the rarest Camaro out there.

Differences in the years

For the most part the 1969 version of the Camaro stayed the same. The grille however was redesigned, and the headlights sat farther back. The car also had a reshaped doorand rear quarter panel. The rear valence changed which gave the car a more low and wide posture. The 1969 Camaro was the last of the first generation made, the last models within the first generation were made in late December of 1969.

An abundance of facts about the 1969 Camaro

Some may not know much about the 1969 Camaro so here’s a little bit of information for you. Upon creation the 1969 Camaro was placed under the HT Sport Coupe body style, with the car having rear wheel drive. The average weight of the car is close to 3,042 pounds and might cost you about $2,635 back when it was released. The car came with a normal 6 cyclinder engine, and ran at about 140HP. The manual version only had 3 gears, and it was possible to purchase with a automatic transmission which had 4 gears.

Eleanor is not a person but a muscle car. This Gone in 60 Seconds 1967 Mustang is the complete embodiment of what muscle cars are all about.

Usually powered by a V8 engine, muscle cars were monsters of drag racing world back in the 1960’s until early portion of 1980’s. With extremely powerful torque, these cars are really going to give you a jaw-dropping ride. Muscle cars are no doubt fast cars with high horse power capability.

The moment you look at such cars, the first things you will see are their bulky curves and high-performance z rated tires which are true affirmation of the reputation that muscle autos are very much known of.

Muscle cars are different from sports cars we have today though some models are inspired by cars like the Ford Mustang. Though sports cars are fast cars like muscle autos, they surely won’t last a minute with the supreme torque that muscle autos have - which perhaps makes Eleanor the perfect Gone in 60 Seconds car.

The interiors of muscle cars are real statement of high performance, road warrior type of vehicle. The almost nil sign of elegance and the all heart-pumping design of muscle autos’ interiors match their rock and revving integrity that many a cars today try to copy but all in futility. The moment you turn it on, you can’t help but notice the fiery breathing of muscle car’s engine. The hissing and guzzling is like that of a dragon sleeping always ready to get the tracks burning.

When you hit the gas, the dragon’s V8 engine charges in an instant ready to devour all things that block its way… just like when Vin Diesel of The Fast and The Furious rages against the wall and hits the road with such awesome roar.

If what you are looking for is the car with an attitude that never allows being a second rater, muscle autos are the right choice. But prepare to be awestruck with the price because as of now it’s of a collector’s item kind of thing since you can not easily find one in the market.

However, there are companies and groups that want to bring back muscle cars on the road and these groups are actually buying old muscle autos and reconditioning them to make them roadworthy again.

There are a number of reconditioned muscle cars that can still be found nowadays. There is the all-time favorite 1966 GT 40, 1970 Superbird, 1968 Shelby GT500KR Fastback or 1969 Barracuda Convertible. These models of cars were once kings of the road in the 1960’s up to early part of 1980’s.

Although muscle autos are now rare species, there are a number of clubs that relive the greatness of muscle cars. These groups stage races and events all with the purpose of having some fun and reminiscing those days when muscle autos ruled the streets.

And thanks to the Internet, people around the world who share common interest in muscle cars now have a dependable means to showcase the glory of muscle autos and allow the younger generation to see the real muscle in high-performance driving via muscle cars.

Since 1964 when the Pontiac GTO was released to the public inspired by high performance cars used in races, the car has won a lot of loyal admirers. And even with the discontinuation of the original models in 1974, the legacy of the original model which started the muscle car era did not diminish. Scores of devoted followers still sport the vintage Pontiac GTOs known for their brute strength and power. The car has been a symbol of power since its introduction. After all, fitting a large V8 engine full of power into a coupe chassis could only mean lots and lots of power at the command of the driver. While the original models did not live long enough due to problems on steering around bends and stopping power, it has left its mark and it was just a matter of time before a new brand of muscle cars comes from its ashes. And so it is that the new Pontiac GTO came into being.

Solving its predecessor’s problem in braking and cornering, the new generation GTO is no doubt the modern muscle car loaded with all the power the car is known for. The car is on a mission to once again to show the public what high performance on road car really means.

The new generation muscle car’s suspension has been upgraded to enable the car to handle bends in the road unlike its predecessors. It sports MacPherson struts on the front, progressive-rate springs, and a 1.1 inch direct-assisting stabilizer bar. While on the rear, the car employs a semi-trailing arm with control link, gas pressurized dampers and a .63 inch direct-acting stabilizer bar. Braking power is also significantly improved using power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with the assistance of the anti-lock brake system.

The modern version of the Pontiac GTO still has the same power that its ancestors have. It now uses a 5.7 liter V8 engine that is capable of an awesome 350 horsepower at 5,200 revolutions per minute and 365 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. To transfer that power all the way down to the wheels, a six-speed manual transmission is employed by the car.

The car has undoubtedly sufficient power but can still be increased significantly by using aftermarket products like a GTO Borla Exhaust system or any other performance enhancing products.

The GTO has always had that special part in automotive history and with the resurfacing of the original muscle car in a safer and even more powerful configuration, it seems that the vehicle will once again turn heads while it coasts on our roads.

Joe Thompson is the owner of a successful auto body shop in Ferndale, California. This 38 year old is also a prolific writer, contributing automotive related articles to various publications.

So you think it’s a Pontiac muscle car that you want, how about a true American super car, I’m talking about the 1970 GTO judge, with 455 cubic inches of fire breathing Pontiac power, the GTO judge is however extremely rare and hard to find, but in my opinion it’s Pontiac’s cream of the crop in muscle cars, yeah sure they built the trans-am, and it’s an awesome car also, but it’s no GTO judge, the 455 cubic inch V8 boasted a lowly factory rating 355 BHP, but we all know about the factory hp ratings, don’t we.

Delivering 421 pavement trashing pound feet of torque, it was a force to be reckoned with, and a challenge that most normal muscle cars could not deal with, as it was no normal car, the car came with servo front disc brakes, a turbohydromatic 400 automatic transmission, a hood mounted tach, a ram-air V package to ram fresh air straight down the throat of this beast, a positraction rear end boasting 4.33:1 rear gears, and an option for a M-22 rock-crusher 4 speed transmission.

Put all this together, and it spells wicked, this car could a aneurysm straight to your heart, over the years this car has made a lot of grown men cry after they under estimated the raw power of this car, and lost the race, I don’t know if you’ve ever got in to a muscle car, and stepped in to the pedal, when you leave the line, the car literally shoves you back in the seat and pins you there, for a split instant the car is in control of you, the torque of this car was very capable of such things, and it surprised a lot of people.
